Will County Fair

Fairbook Dedication

Sometimes life places you in situations you never imagined will last a lifetime. When Leland Gates started selling trailers in the 1970s, he had no idea that journey would lead him into so many meaningful areas of his life.

For more than 50 years, Leland dedicated himself to the Will County Fair. He continued to overcome every obstacle that came his way—even Mother Nature during his years as Track Superintendent. Through it all, he loved the Fair and cherished being a part of it.

With Colleen by his side through life, marriage, and all of his endeavors, Leland knew just how special life could be. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories and experiences that will forever be a part of the Will County Fair family.

We thank Leland for being such an important part of our Fair Family for more than 50 years. As we celebrate the 123rd Anniversary of the Will County Fair in 2026, we know Leland is watching from above, with one of the best seats in the house and know he is proud of everyone who continues to work hard to make the Fair grow and thrive—but especially his daughter, Virginia.

Leland’s legacy will forever be a part of the Will County Fair. His dedication, love, and presence will never be forgotten. ❤️
